Development Justice

Today’s prevailing model of development has over-empowered elite people and entities, and generated systematic human rights violations and environmental degradation. With Franciscans around the world and partners at the UN, FI monitored and advocated in the negotiations of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on ensuring that the human right to water to be protected. In the context of the newly adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, FI is advocating for a human rights based approach to the SDGs’ implementation as a means to ensure that development and poverty eradication policies prioritise people and the environment.
