In einer historischen Abstimmung am 28. Juli hat die UN-Generalversammlung mit \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigender Mehrheit das Menschenrecht auf eine saubere, gesunde und nachhaltige Umwelt anerkannt. Franciscans International begr\u00fc\u00dft die Unterst\u00fctzung von 161 Staaten f\u00fcr diese Resolution, die bekr\u00e4ftigt, dass eine gesunde Umwelt in der Tat ein Menschenrecht ist, das ohne Diskriminierung f\u00fcr alle gesch\u00fctzt und garantiert werden sollte. Dies ist ein wichtiger Schritt hin zu st\u00e4rkeren internationalen und nationalen Bem\u00fchungen, die Umwelt weltweit zu erhalten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Die universelle Anerkennung einer sauberen, gesunden und nachhaltigen Umwelt ist eine kraftvolle und wirksame Antwort, die hoffentlich transformative Ver\u00e4nderungen in unseren Gesellschaften ausl\u00f6sen wird, unter anderem durch einen Paradigmenwechsel in Bezug auf unsere Beziehung zur Umwelt und zu \u00d6kosystemen“, sagte Botschafterin Maritza Chan Valverde aus Costa Rica, die die Resolution einbrachte. Sie \u00e4u\u00dferte auch die Hoffnung, dass die universelle Anerkennung dazu beitragen wird, die Umweltergebnisse in den Staaten zu verbessern, die dieses Recht bereits in ihrer nationalen Gesetzgebung verankert haben, und einen Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr Verfassungs- und Gesetzes\u00e4nderungen in den Staaten bieten wird, die dies nicht getan haben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mit ihrem Beschluss bekr\u00e4ftigte die Generalversammlung auch eine Resolution des UN-Menschenrechtsrats<\/a> vom Oktober 2021, in der dieses Recht erstmals auf internationaler Ebene formell anerkannt wurde. Da die Generalversammlung jedoch das einzige UN-Organ ist, in dem alle Mitgliedstaaten gleichberechtigt vertreten sind, kommt der heutigen Abstimmung zus\u00e4tzliche Bedeutung zu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Diese Entscheidung ist wirklich historisch. Sie ist jedoch auch l\u00e4ngst \u00fcberf\u00e4llig und kommt zu einer Zeit, in der alle Warnzeichen auf Rot stehen und uns schnell die M\u00f6glichkeiten ausgehen, eine globale Umweltkatastrophe abzuwenden“, sagte Sandra Epal-Ratjen, FI’s International Advocacy Director. „Es ist jetzt unbestreitbar, dass das Recht auf eine saubere, gesunde und nachhaltige Umwelt ein Menschenrecht ist, das allen Menschen zustehen sollte. Nach dieser Abstimmung m\u00fcssen sich alle Staaten zu seiner Verwirklichung verpflichten.“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Anerkennung des Rechts auf eine gesunde Umwelt ist das Ergebnis einer langen und nachhaltigen internationalen Kampagne<\/a> breiter Koalitionen und folgt den Forderungen von mehr als 1.350 Organisationen<\/a> der Zivilgesellschaft, indigenen V\u00f6lkern, sozialen Bewegungen und lokalen Gemeinschaften. Die Entscheidung der Generalversammlung sendet auch eine starke Botschaft, die best\u00e4tigt, dass der Kampf f\u00fcr Umweltgerechtigkeit tats\u00e4chlich ein Kampf f\u00fcr die Menschenrechte ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FI wird weiterhin eng mit Franziskanern und anderen Partnern auf der ganzen Welt zusammenarbeiten und sich f\u00fcr die vollst\u00e4ndige und konkrete Umsetzung dieses Rechts als Grundlage f\u00fcr eine gerechtere und effektivere Umweltpolitik einsetzen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
