Item 2: General Debate – Sri Lanka (7 September)
Seven years after the deadly Easter Sunday Attacks, victims and their families are still waiting for justice with several investigations suggesting that there was an organized conspiracy behind the bombings. In recent years, alleged links to a former Director of State Intelligence Services have emerged, while witnesses and prosecuting officials have faced intimidation. At the Human Rights Council, we urged the Sri Lankan government to effectively protect victims, witnesses, investigators, human rights defenders, lawyers, church leaders and others who face risks for seeking truth, justice, and accountability.
